Why we do what we do...

In 2014 my nephew was born at 28 weeks. For 6 months our family watched the miracle workers in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) loving care for this sweet boy. The days and nights were filled with heartache and prayers. I spent countless hours cuddling and loving this sweet baby boy while amazing Nurses of the NICU tenderly nursed our baby as he grew. 

Two years later we had another nephew to excited to meet the family that he joined us at 24 weeks. For the second time our family prayed and worried all while NICU staff buzzed around us as the silent Superheroes that they are. It was while holding this second sweet baby that I said to myself “if you were home with me, you would be wrapped in a super cute blanket.” One day a Nurse mentioned that they were always looking for fun blankets, but the fun blankets only came thru donations. 

That simple thought inspired me to take up the cause. My daughter and I set a goal to provide 100 blankets to the local NICU. However, we needed to find a way to pay for those blankets. That’s when I learned how to make soap. Each bar of soap you purchase will provide the local NICU with a snuggle blanket. 

Last year, due to the successful sales, we were able to donate 300 blankets.  

I am not going to lie, it was watching the dedication of the amazing NICU staff that inspired me to return to school and become a Registered Nurse. And my nephews - well they are thriving, wild little boys that take love to play in the dirt and then get clean with “Auntie Kirsten’s” soaps. I have to admit, after a 12 hour nursing shift, I look forward to coming home and washing my hands with an amazing soap that not only cleans but leaves my hands feeling super soft.
